More Clarification of Our Requirements

Alex,

We've reviewed your responses (thanks for being so quick), and have responses in turn:

1) We discussed in our visit Saturday child lock mechanisms which
would ensure the windows 'turn'-opened no more than a certain angle.
We understood those were included in your quote for all windows, can
you please confirm?

d/ http://winkhausdirect.co.uk/download/HelpOBVMountingInstructions.pdf this opening

OK, those aren't quite what we imagined when we were there Saturday.  We had imagined something built into your window mechanism, hidden in the frame or something.  If these are the only option for turn restrictors, we'd rather omit them.

8) Pos. no 8 'Balcony door in kitchen' is currently listed as triple
glazed, toughened glass both sides.  It and its fixed panel should be
only ECO68 double glazed, toughened both sides.    As well, the door
should be larger, and the fixed panel smaller.  The door width should
be 900mm and the fixed panel 500mm.

l/ if the door need to be in passive alurion profile with triple glazing - the fixed panel cannot be in different system - i think it can have doble glazing instead of triple - but it wont look nice - no connection between this two glazing while closed, don't you think? - i will correct the size of fixed panel/door

We meant we want both door and fixed panel beside it to be only ECO68 double glazed toughened -- so no mismatch.

t/ pos 16 - glazing is ESG means that is secure;

Great -- I was confused because sometimes the spec said ESGT for a few windows.

1/ because of changing few positions to the passive alurion with triple glazing/from passive to eko68 - price may change - passive alurion with triple glazing are more expensive

Understood, but note the big 3m x 4m sliding door and the kitchen balcony door are being changed from passive alurion to ECO68.  Given the relative sizes, we would expect the overall cost to work out cheaper...

Looking forward to hearing back from you,

Regards,
Michael

Asking for Changes/Confirmations Before We Can Accept

On 27 June 2012 23:31, Michael Maguire <michael.maguire@gmail.com> wrote:
Dear Alex,

Babettli and I have gone through the offer and it looks good, with the
following changes/confirmations before we can accept:

General, Confirming our Verbal Conversations:

1) We discussed in our visit Saturday child lock mechanisms which
would ensure the windows 'turn'-opened no more than a certain angle.
We understood those were included in your quote for all windows, can
you please confirm?

2) You didn't have the code number for the handle and hardware colour
we liked, can we confirm "F1 silver" is the one in the attached image?

3) You showed us the partial handle 45' tilt ventilation mode.  Can we
confirm that all windows will have that and *will not* have any form
of trickle vents installed?

4) Babettli had discussed with you that the final sizes taken for the
large rear 3m wide sliding door and fixed panel above it should only
be taken after the steel frame had been erected.  I understand from
Babettli that you said this could be worked into the order 'later' in
the process. Can you confirm how much time you'll need from when the
steel frame is completed til you'll be able to provide those windows?
I.e. how soon do we have to ensure the steel frame is completed in
order for you to be able to deliver all at once in your 7-8weeks?

5) As discussed, in all cases where there is a fixed panel window, we
do not wish it to have 'frame on top', but rather the more minimal
wood frame.

In our review of the Technical Specification List:

6) Pos. no 2, W3, W4 contains no Glazing Specification.  For the sake
of completeness, it should be the same as Pos. no 1, W1, W2 which is
ESG4T/18/4/18/ESG4T.

7) Pos. no 7 W19 is currently shown as handle on the right as seen
from inside, but on examining the bathroom and a nearby radiator, we
think it will need to have handle on the left.

8) Pos. no 8 'Balcony door in kitchen' is currently listed as triple
glazed, toughened glass both sides.  It and its fixed panel should be
only ECO68 double glazed, toughened both sides.    As well, the door
should be larger, and the fixed panel smaller.  The door width should
be 900mm and the fixed panel 500mm.

9) Pos. no 9 'HS sliding door' is currently listed as triple glazed,
toughened glass both sides.  This is a south-facing window in a living
space.  I don't recall -- was there a reason it needed to be Aluron
Triple?  It should only be ECO68 double glazed, toughened both sides.
As well, it is currently listed as 3000 x 2300.  Please make it 3000 x
2400.

10) Pos. no 10, FP02, FP03.  These are on the ground floor facing into
our backyard which is not secured.  Can you please specify that these
are also toughened glass both sides.

11) Pos. no 11, W6 As above, this is on the ground floor facing into
our backyard which is not secured.  Can you please specify that this
is also toughened glass both sides.  Can we please switch the opening
direction so that it is handle on the right as seen from the inside.

12) Pos. no 12, W9, W17.  Please change the handle from current left
as viewed from inside to right as viewed from inside.   Also, these
are bedroom spaces.  Can we please change them to Passiv Aluron triple
glazed.

13) Pos. no 13, W15.  This is a bedroom space.  Can we please change
it to Passiv Aluron triple glazed.

14) Pos. no 14, W18.  This is a potential bedroom space.  Can we
please change it to Passiv Aluron triple glazed.

15) Pos. no 16, W05.  This on the ground floor facing into our
backyard which is not secured.  Can you please specify that this is
also toughened glass both sides.

In summary,

I think this means we've asked for the very large sliding window and
kitchen balcony door to be ECO68 double toughened instead of Aluron
triple, and instead asked for 4 smaller windows to be Aluron triple
instead of ECO68 double.  As well, we've asked for 4 more windows on
the ground floor rear to be toughened on both sides.  Would you like
to recompute the price for us?

Regards,
Michael and Babettli

Thank you for this.

Few quick questions:

What is the u-value for both the double glazing and triple glazing?

What is the frame thickness? Both for the frame and the actual glass?

Could we come and have a look at your window this saturday?

To whom it may concern,

I came across you company in a blog and you guys came highly recommended, i was wondering if you would like to quote for the following project.

We have recently bought an end of terrace Victorian house in North London: 36 Duckett Road, N4 1BN. The house is not in a conservation area. We have hired an energy consultant to guide us through some renovations that will – hopefully -- take the house to the PassivHaus EnerPHit levels of energy usage, rather than the current annual space heating demand for the house of 272 kWh/m2.year.

In order to do that the first step we are undertaking is to apply external insulation to the house and to change all the windows which are currently original wooden single glazed windows.

Our general strategy will be triple glazed for north-facing and bathroom windows, double glazing for the remainder which are mostly south- with a few east-facing. All windows should open inwards.

Here are the windows for which we are looking for a quotation:

GROUND FLOOR: FRONT OF THE HOUSE TRIPLE GLAZED (north facing) sash window appearance.

All the measurement are of glass opening:

VESTIBULE TRIPLE GLAZED:
W1 :  960Wx2060H

LIBRARY bay window TRIPLE GLAZED:
W2:  960Wx2060H, W3 960Wx2060H, W4 960Wx2060H

KITCHEN bay (east-facing side of the house -- currently traditional Victorian sash windows but does not need to remain so) DOUBLE GLAZED bay:
W5 340Wx1590H, W6 1040Wx1590H, W7 340Wx1590H

BATHROOM 1 (east-facing) TRIPLE GLAZED:
W8 730Wx1220H

Future guest BEDROOM (currently kitchen) DOUBLE GLAZED:
W9 1040Wx1440H

Son Sam’s BEDROOM front of the house TRIPLE GLAZED (north facing) sash window appearance:

W10 960Wx1740H
W11 960Wx1740H

Son Jake’s BEDROOM front of the house TRIPLE GLAZED (north facing) bay sash window appearance:
W12 960Wx1740H
W13 960Wx1740H
W14 960Wx1740H

Master BEDROOM south facing DOUBLE GLAZED:
W15 1040Wx1560H

Master bedroom’s BATHROOM south facing TRIPLE GLAZED:
W16 840Wx1730H

Future STUDY/OFFICE (currently living room) DOUBLE GLAZED:
W17 1040Wx1440H
W18 1400Wx1440H

BATHROOM 3 TRIPLE GLAZED:
W19 500Wx1400H

We are also in the process of opening up the south facing facade of the house with an opening that is roughly 4400mm in height by 3000mm in width. The bottom part will have sliding doors that also tilt and the top part is a fixed panel. For this opening we were thinking of double glazing as we would like to use the sun as a mean of heating (a concrete floor inside will work as  thermal mass). Please let me know if this is something you guys do. Could you also let me know what the difference in price will be if instead we go for triple glazing?
There is also a double sliding door  measuring 1400wx2300h triple glazed, again in needs to tilt in. Lastly a fixed panel (triple glaze) which measure 1800wx1700h.

Please let me know if all makes sense.

I look forward in hearing from you.

Please let me know if you need any further information.

Kind regards,

Babettli Azzone
